YAY! CornwallASSISTANT YOUTH WORKER VACANCYWe are looking for a someone to assist in running our youth group for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and questioning people aged between 13 and 25 in Cornwall. Minimum of 8 hours per month, assisting in planning and delivering at least one session on the first Saturday evening of the month in Truro, with a second session each month which takes place at various locations across the county.The allocated hours are flexible, allowing for you to spend time on admin and planning as and when suits you. You will need to be able to increase these hours as necessary. A full job description and person specification are attached. We have a very committed team of trustees and a lead worker in place, as well as an enthusiastic group of young people. We are looking for someone with the skills, passion and drive to really develop the group and promote its existence within Cornwall. We feel that this is an ideal opportunity for someone to develop their skills in working with a minority community in Cornwall. Assistant Youth Worker Based in Truro, but will need to travel throughout the county and to areas without public transport links Salary £8.42 per hour, pro rata, a minimum of eight hours per month with provision to increase as necessary Assistant Worker Key Responsibilities and Tasks Assist in preparing and leading sessions, workshops and activities for young people including activities tailored to address sensitive issues such as self-harm, suicide or drug abuse as needed within the group Attending, and supporting young people to attend key events such as national conferences or pride parades Undertaking 1-1 work with young people Assist in the completion of induction paperwork for each new member and session reports at the end of every session To support and encourage the youth trustee to fully carry out their role Responding to and reporting safeguarding concerns and disclosures promptly and accurately to the designated person for child protection Assist with developing provision and resources for young people who identify as LGBTQ throughout the county Handling of petty cash and accountancy for travel expenses Maintenance and development of online resources including Facebook, Twitter and the group webpage Promoting equality of opportunity and diversity in all aspects of work To undertake any other tasks of a similar level of responsibility as requested from time to time Proactively promoting the group Attending designated training, supervision and line management as required.Highlight conscientious objections to your line manager whilst maintaining a professional and lawful service.In the absence of the lead worker you may need to assume some of their responsibilities such as attending management meetings and facilitating methods for young people to communicate with the trustees.Person Specification Essential Experience of working in a hands on role with young people Evidence of working with people from a minority or disadvantaged group Awareness of working with young people facing challenging issues such as self-harm, suicide or drug abuse Use of a car to travel across the county Good working knowledge of the issues that face young people who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender and those who are questioning their identity/gender role Good working knowledge of sources of support which are available for young people who are LGBTQ locally and nationally Experience of producing accurate reports and keeping confidential records At least one years experience of working with confidential information A good understanding of Safeguarding procedures. Desirable Previous work experience with young people who identify as LGBTQ A relevant professional qualification (such as NVQ Level Three, DIPSW or a teaching qualification) Previous work experience in a youth group setting Training in Safeguarding procedures Training in First Aid procedures We will require the preferred candidate to undertake an enhanced CRB check prior to commencement of the role. We also require the post holder to have completed CAMAT tier 3 training within six months of taking the post (should they not already hold this qualification).
