LGBTQ Youth CornwallRole Description: ChairpersonWe have compiled these documents purely as a guide for prospective and existing trustees. They are not exhaustive or reflective of every task that anyone may ever need to carry out. LGBTQ Youth Cornwall is proud of the democracy and inclusiveness of our trustees and would stress that should anyone be uncomfortable carrying out any task, we should hope that another trustee would be willing to absorb this as part of their role. Tasks which may regularly be carried out by the Chair include:o Chairing and organising meetings of trustees and the advisory group. o Contacting external professionals and arranging meetings etc to promote the group. o Fundraising and completing funding applications. o Delivering training both internally and externally on behalf of the group. o Attending meetings and acting as the ‘supervisory trustee’. o Line management and supervision of paid staff and volunteers. o Completing paperwork and associated admin tasks (for instance for EEFO accreditation). o Communicating with trustees by phone and e-mail. o Recruitment and interviewing of potential new employees and informing candidates of decision making and providing feedback when requested. o Acting as designated person for child protection and safeguarding and liaising with statutory services such as the LSCB and Social Services. o Writing policies, procedures and guidelines to govern the day-day running of the group. o Carrying out discipline and grievance procedures as and when required. o Positively promoting the group and its activities among LGBT and generic communities. o Providing support for young people in the absence of paid workers/volunteers. o Supporting young people and workers at events such as pride. Person Specificationo Organised and punctual person with good timekeeping skills and ability to see tasks through. o Clear and effective communication skills and the ability to manage meetings where participants may have quite disparate views. o Experience of voluntary groups and the statutory sector. o Experience of line management, supervision and recruitment. o CAMAT Tier 3 qualified, or willing to train to this level. o Experience of working with minority communities, or a desire to do so. o Experience of working with children and young people. o The ability to provide a satisfactory Enchanced CRB disclosure. o Experience of taking a senior trustee role within a similar organisation. o Knowledge and experience of services for young people within the county of Cornwall. o Ability to positively promote the group and the experience of being LGBTQ in Cornwall today. o Willingness to engage appropriately with professionals from a wide range of settings, as well as adapting to work directly with young people.
